RIFLE SHOOTING.

CITY AND SUBURBS CLUB. The City and Suburbs Defence Rifle Club, which will hold its annual meeting and presentation of prizes on September 1. has had a most successful season. Tho standard of shooting was very high throughout the year, in spite of the bad wuather conditions which were experienced. The various competitions were very. keenly contested, the club championship beingwon by tho last shot on the final day. This was the result of a tie between Riflemen Jd. J Verrall and R. C. Russell, the former winning the shoot-off after having registered tho fine score of 99 out of a possible 100 at 800 and 900 yards, in a very tricky wind. This shoot was the outstanding one of the year, and none of the old shots are ablo to recall the occasion on which it baß been beaten at Penrose. . ._ , The championship aggregate is decided on the total of the two best shoots over the following sets of ranges:—soo and 600 yards, 600 and 700 yards, and SOO and f«00 yards Rifleman Verrall's total was 540. which works out at an average of 90. The B grade championship was won by Rifleman G F. Watt, with a total of 510. The "rand Aggregates, comprising the totals of all shoots in the ohampionshio series, were annexed by Rifleman A. J. in A grade and Rifleman H. W Verrall in B Rifleman A. J. Pieterson also accounted for the competition for the best average. He secured 4,19 per shot, which was a remnrkahle figure, owing to the fact that he fired in every match during the year. Service shoot inK was carried out frponently and the chnmnionship was won by Rifleman C J M. Clark, who compiled some excellent- scores ______
