" TIN HARES " IN SYDNEY. A NEW CYCLING TRACK. [from our own correspondent.] SYDNEY. Aug. 11. Although the Government has refused to eliminate the clause in its Crown lease that would have permitted the introduction of night trotting at Maroubra Speedway, it is rumoured that the management of this racing track are not wholly disheartened and that we may yet see the speedway turned into a racecourse. The success of the introduction of mechanical hare coursing, or to use the vernacular, ''the tin hares" has whetted the appetite of those who determined to make the Australians a truly sport-loving people. Of course, they are in agreement upon this point: Betting must be permitted if the sport is to be a " true sport." Snortsmen here will soon have a new avenue for getting rid of their surplus energy. Frank Corry, a well-known international professional cyclist, has for some time been combing the city in search of a suitable site for the construction of an eight-lap track. Now he definitely states that he expects to see the building completed in time to stage a six-days' race at Christmas. He proposes to erect a Sydney Sports Palace, to cost £20,000, and "with seating-accommo-dation for 25,000 persons. The whole building will be under cover, and within 10 minutes of the central railway station. The principal attraction will be cycling and motor-paced racing, but the building; and track will be so arranged as to permit of boxing, wrestling, tennis and foot mnning. So far, no one has thought of suggesting the expediency of carrying on foot racing
