Friday ' The council of' the New Zen land Institute of Surveybrs to-day discussed the tute of Surveyors' met yesterday and discussed the Town Planning Act. Delegates from various parts of New Zealand gave details regarding action already taken by local <bodies in accordance with carrying out the provisions of the Act. It' was stated .that, conferences had been' held between the director of town planning and branches of the institute in different centres, and it was hoped before long that certain local authorities would forward the required plans for approval of the Town Planning Board. The collection of data and the preparation of plans in the terms of tlie Act were dealt with at. some length. It was decided that the various-branches of the institute bo instructed to do all in theii. power tp educate .public opinion on the' importance of-town planning to the community, and that, branches should assist in the formation of town-planning associations' in different centres, on the lines of the association recently started in Auckland, which already has done much to advance the cause of town planning in that city. Branches were instructed to do all in their power to tliat end.
