NOTICE OF EVICTION.

VICTORIA CRUISING CLUB. NEW QUARTERS SUGGESTED. OFFER OF HARBOUR BOARD. A permanent homo at the foot of New Street was suggested to the Victoria Cruising Club by Mr.' H. R. Mackenzie, chairman of the Auckland Harbour Board, yesterday, as the most practicable solution of ,the club's difficulties in view of the decision of the board to give the club three months' notice to quit its present quarters at Beaumont Street. The board has taken this step in view of its decision to offer the leases of sections at Beaumont Street for auction at an early date. More information on the subject was sought by a deputation from the club, headed by the commodore, Mr. C. S. Hognn, which waited 011 Mr. Mackenzie yesterday. Mr. Mackenzie explained that the board had had an offer from a con- | corn which wanted to lease the whole of the land in that locality. This land was worth £1240 a year to the board, and its valuo would be increased by 50 per cent, in 25 years' time. 'You-can rest assured that the hauling up area is going," added Mr. Mackenzie. In suggesting a permanent home for the club at the foot of New Street, Mr. Mackenzie, thought the board would be willing to give the club a site there, probably at a rental of £1 a year. In the event of a new tenant leasing the Beaumont Street sections, Mr. Mackenzie promised he would endeavour to arrange for a five-foot right-of-way being provided to give access to the club's shed. It should, he thought, be possible to arrange for the clubhouse being left on its present site for six months after the new tenant took possession. The New Street site, Mr. Mackenzio pointed out, would be right inside the St. Mary's Bay boat harbour breakwater, It was conveniently situated for club members. In thanking Mr. Mackenzie for the assurance that he would do his utmost to assist the club in its present difficulties, Mr. Hogan said the club would make application for the New Street site, pending developments. The club knew its interests could safely be left in Mr. .Mackenzie's hands
