STRIKE OF 500 WORKERS. EXTRA PAYMENTS DEMANDED. A. and N.Z. SYDNEY. Auk. 19. As a result of a strike of the boilermakers and ironworkers' assistants who are employed on the new harbour bridge, all erection work has been stopped. Work at the quarries which provide the stono for the bridge has also stopped owing to a strike of the crane drivers. Altogther 500 men are idle. The men demand an extra £1 10s a week for working at a height. As the contract of the company which is building the bridge with the Government provides for payment of wages at award rates only, the management has refused the demand.
