THE MUSEUM SHOWCASES.

Sir, —Mr. Archey's reasons for the acceptance of a British, instead of an Auckland, tender do not satisfy the general public. What they want to know is whether the matter has been irrevocably settled, or can the committee reconsider the position with a view to having the work done locally? The funds for the War Memorial were subscribed' by New Zealanders. An effort was made by the Industrial Association to have the museum built of New Zealand stone, but without much success, and now we have the Museum Council following the same line. Although New Zealand money is appreciated, apparently New Zealand artisans are not considered good enough to carry out the work. Let us rid ourselves of this unfair prejudice. We have in our country many high-class workers capable of producing articles that compare more than favourably with many of the imported. Surely the council will reconsider the matter and give our own people an opportunity of what should essentially be a New Zealand work. J- Findlay.

Secretary, Auckland Manufacturers' Association.
