RECORD OF THIRTEEN DAYS. LATEST AMERICAN FASHION. [from our own correspondent.] SAN FRANCISCO. July 27. Flagpole sitting is the latest idea in vogue in the United Statess. A man named "Shipwreck" Kelly started it, by setting a record for ten days" sitting on top of the flagpole of a well-known New York hotel. Another man broke the record in Chicago, with 'thirteen days. His wife camped in a tent on the roof of the hotel. This record lasted but a week when a Philadelphia sitter set up a time of sixteen days. Now a Los Angeles man, known as the "masked phantom," •„ is sitting, in an attempt to set a new record. The thermometer registered 93 in the shade on his first day "up the pole."
