ENGLISH OFFICIAL RETURN. MORTALITY FROM INFLUENZA. (British Official Wireless.) A. and N.Z. RUGBY. Aug. 17. The return from the Registrar-General's office for tho second quarter of the year shows that tho number of deaths in England and Wales totalled 107,600. This is 61.000 less than in the preceding quarter and 6000 less than in the corresponding quarter of last year. The absence of serious epidemics is a feature of the return, but 1700 people died from influenza during the quarter. The number of births during the same period was 171.000, which is nearly 4000 more than in the preceding quarter, but is 10,000 below the total of the second quarter of last year.
