VICTORIAN POLICE.

ECHO OF 1923 STRIKE. REMOVAL OF BAN SOUGHT. (Received August 18, 5.5 p.m.) A. and N.Z. MELBOURNE. Aug. 18. A deputation from the Trades Hall Council and the ex-Police Association today asked the Victorian Chief Secretary, Mr. S. M. Prendergast, to lift the ban placed on the policemen who went on strike in November, 1923. They also asked that the men in question be allowed to apply for re-enlistment as vacancies occur. In reply, the Minister said he did not think the requests were at all unreasonable. It was not fair to determine upon a bitter attitude toward tho police strikers when everybody else was receiving clemency. Mr. Prendergast promised to place the representations of the deputation before the State Cabinet.
