YACHTING PRIZES.

PONSONBY CLUB FUNCTION. VERY SUCCESSFUL SEASON. t. The Ponsonby Cruising Club held its annual distribution of prir.es and smoke eoncert in the clubhouse last evening. The president. Mr. A Thompson, presided over a very large attendance, including Mr. G. Baildon. Mavor of Auckland, and representatives of all the local yacht and launch clubs. , The chairman, in extending a welcome to the visitors, outlined the history of the club, which was formed 27 years ago. It had made history and it had a reputation of which to be proud. The past season had been very successful and the prospects for the com ins yonr were even still brighter. The commodore, Mr. W. Goodison. commented upon the feeling of poodfelJovvship that existed among all the clubs in and around Auckland. He hoped they would bnnd together, thus enabling them to obtain the best facilities for the good or the J. W. Frater. C. J. Ceilings and E. B. Webster returned thanks on behalf of the kindred clubs and referred to the loss boat owners would sustain m the closing of the hauling-out area for pleasure craft at Freeman's Bay. , L The pri7.es, which were presented by the patron. Mr. E. J. Kelly, made a very fine showing. The most important trophy was the Lipton Challenge Cnp for 22-footers. won by Lucille, representing the Point Chevalier Sailing Club. Among the other cups we re the following:—Palmer Cup. won by \V airiki: Jackson Cup. won by Starlight; Foster Cup, won by Drone; Elliston Cup, won by Sea Sleigh; Carr Cup, won by Alert; Hewson Memorial Cup and medals, won by During the eveninir the Mayor was asked to forward to Sir Thomas Lipton. on behnlf of the club, an autographic album depicting the last race for the Lipton Cup. \ requisition, signed by all present, was handed to Mr. E J. Kelly asking him to allow himself to be nominated for the position of commodore for the 1927-2S season. Mr. Kelly promised to give the matter lavourable consideration. A most enjoyable programme of vocal items was given.
