MOTOR-CYCLES STOLEN.

TWO OFFENCES ADMITTED. FORGERY OF A RECEIPT. Charges of breaking and entering the motor-garage of Poland Haslop, in West Street, Newton, on July 27, and stealing a motor-cycle valued at £42, the property of Frederick Bowes, of forging a receipt for £62 10s on July 30 and causing William G. Francis to act on it as genuine, and of stealing a motor-cycle and side-car valued at £4O, the property of Moss Robinson, at Mercer on August 1. were admitted in the Police Court yesterday by John Henry Moran, aged 23 (Mr. Elwarth). Detective-Sergeant Jssell produced a statement made by accused, in which ho said he was married and had one child. He was an electrical linesman, but had been out of work for about two months. Ho was living in rooms rented from Haslop, and in consequence of seeing an advertisement by a person wishing to purchase a motor-cycle he broke into Haslop's garage and took a motor-cycle which Bowers kept there. He left the vehicle at the residence of a friend, and next morning in answer to the advertisement, took the machine to Francis. The latter agreed to purchase it for £3O if certain repairs were done and the receipt for its purchase were produced. Accused, therefore, forged a receipt and Francis paid £3O for the machine. Accused was then offered a position with the Public "Works Department near Mercer, and obtained a motor-cycle from Moss Robinson, second-hand dealer, Victoria Street, on a hire-purchase agreement, paying a deposit of £2O and agreeing to pay £2" fortnightly. He rqde the cycle to Mercer and sold it for £3O to another Public Works Department employee, who paid a deposit of £5 and agreed to pay £3 monthly. In his statement accused said' he now had only £1 10s of the money obtained through these transactions. The remainder had been spent in buying food and clothing for his wife and child and m paying a.'roars of rent. Accused was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence.
