PERIL ON VOLCANO.

TOURIST ON MT. VESUVIUS. NARROW ESCAPE FROM LAVA. ROME, Aug. 11. A tourist who was peering into the lava from.the rim of Mount Veruvius had a narrow escape from a terrible death. He slipped and was sliding down the crater side toward the lava when a sergeant of the Carabineers jumped in and threw a rope to him. The rope snapped on a sharp edge oi rock, sending both farther down toward the molten lava. The carabineer recovered his balance, and again threw the- rope to the tourist, who this, time was hauled to the top after two hours of desperate struggling.
