POLICE COURT NEWS.

FALSE PRETENCES CHARGE. REMANDED FOR SENTENCE. A charge of obtaining from Newdick Brothers two boxes of butter valued at £7 19s 4d by falsely representing that an order signed "H. Clark, baker, 826, Mount Eden Road," was genuine was admitted in the Police Court yesterday by Harold Raymond Kerr, aged 27. Accused was remanded for sentence until next Wednesday, Chief-Detective Ward stating that further inquiries were being made. Maurice O'Neill, aged 25, pleaded guilty to charges of being drunk in Queen Street and procuring liquor while prohibited. Accused was fined £2 on the first charge and £1 on the second. Two charges of allowing cows to wander on the streets of Takapuna were preferred against Logan Pyc. Evidence was given that defendant had four dairy cows, but apparently had no land on which to graze them. Numerous complaints had been received regarding damage done «to gardens by the cows. Defendant had frequently been warned and had been convicted on several occasions. He was fined £2 on each charge, with costs £2 Is. On a charge of depositing rubbish on the street at St. Ileliers Bay ,J. Copal was fined £l.
