UNEMPLOYMENT RELIEF.

PROPOSED TAKAPUNA LOAN. QUESTION OF ALLOCATION. The Takapuna Borough Council decided last evening to ask the Local Government Loans Board to sanction a loan of £4OOO for unemployment relief work. A sub-committee was appointed to go into the question of expenditure of the money. A letter from the Bavswater-Belmont Progressive Association stated it looked to the council to spend one-fifth of the proposed loan in the Bayswater area.

"I think the area was due for one-third of the money in any case," said a member of the council, amid laughter. Mr. J. W. Hayden: They mentioned a fifth and that' is all the better for us. Several Bayswater residents objected to the loan proposal on the ground that no data had been published in regard to the allocation of the expenditure. It was decided the information should be made public when particulars of the loan were forwarded to Wellington. MOUNT WELLINGTON WORK LOAN OF* £IOOO TO BE RAISED. A decision to raise a loan of £IOOO for the relief of unemployment was made by the Mount Wellington. Road Board on Tuesday evening. With a Government subsidy of £ for £ there will be £2OOO available for expenditure, 80 per cent, of which will be used for providing employment. "Although the work is not necessary, the money will be used for road construction in various parts of the district," said Mr. S. Hamblin, chairman of the board. " Mr. Trevor Dibble, consulting engineer to the board, will prepare a schedule of proposed works and submit it to a special meeting of the board." TAKAPUNA EX-SERVICE MEN. FUND TO ASSIST MEMBERS. The sum of £B6 7s has been collected by the Takapuna Ex-Service Men's Club for the relief of members out of employment. A start was made this morning with the concreting of Willoughby Street by local unemployed The cost of £975 will be wholly borne by the Mayoral unemployment fund, which now totals £450 and carries a £1 for £1 Government subsidy. The employment of 15 men on this work next week will relieve local unemployment conditions, which have eased in the past fow weeks.
