IMPROVING SHERIFF'S HILL.

THE COUNCIL'S CONTRIBUTION

The Takapuna Borough Council met last evening, the Mayor, Mr. J. W. Williamson, presiding.

Regarding improvements to Sheriff s Hill, a letter was received from the Waitemata County Council inquiring if the contribution of £350 was to be in addition to the £IOOO agreed upon some years ago or whether the sura was to be the Waitemata Council's proportion of the work not yet completed. It was decided to reply that the contribution of £350 was m addition to the £IOOO agreed upon, and was toward the cost of Uie concrete surfacing of the road in lieu of bitumen, subject to the consent of a poll of the ratepayers. On the question of a new site for a cemetery, the Commissioner of Crown Lands advised that the only cemetery site in the Waitemata County other than at Crown Hill was an area of 10 acres situated at the back of Birkenhead. The recommendation of the Works Committee that the engineer report on the suitability of Crown Hill as a cemetery site and whether its proximity- to the proposed reservoir site was detrimental, was a<3 lfc P was decided to nominate Mr. J. E. Close for the vacant seat on the Auckland Harbour Board caused by the death of Mr. John Henderson.
