MOUNT WELLINGTON BOARD

FORMER - EMPLOYEE'S CLAIM. The Mount Wellington Road Board met on Tuesday evening, Mr. S. Hamlin presiding A former employee of the board, Mr. W. Richards, and a number of ratepayers waited on the board with resolutions passed at a public meeting demanding the reinstatement of the ex-employee and an inquiry into allegations made by him respecting the expenditure of loan money bv the engineer. The board dealt with the matter in committee and decided to notify the deputation that it would adhere to its decision not to employ Mr. Richards. It pointed out that section 104 of the Road Boards Act, 1908, described the procedure to adopt if an inquiry was desired. An area of six acres in the centre of the district was offered for sale to the board for a sports ground. Members recognised the need for such an area and it was decided to deal with the matter ■when submitting future loan proposals to the ratepayers. It was reported that a number of street lights would shortly be erected in the district-.
