GAME ENDS FATALLY.

CHILD INJURED ON ROAD. COLLISION WITH A CYCLIST. WALK HOME AFTER ACCIDENT. [by telegraph.—own correspondent.] DUNEDIN. Wednesday. When playing in the dark with other small children outside his home last evening, an eight-year-old boy, Charles Francis Jopson, ran across the street and collided with a bicycle. The collision resulted in the lad's death. His injuries were so severe that less than four hours later he died Mi the Dunedin Hospital. The cycle was ridden by Stanley Hector Rogers, aged 22 years, of North-east Valley. The cyclist dismounted immediately after the accident and lifted the hoy off the ground. His nose and right ear showed signs of injury, but the lad was able to walk back across the street to his home. He told his mother he had been hit by a cycle, and his mother dressed his injuries and made him comfortable in bed. To her the injuries did not appear serious, and the boy did not complain. Mr. Rogers went to the house and inquired regarding the boy's condition. For about two hours the child slept soundly. - When he awoke he complained of being ill and of having pains in his head. A doctor was called and he ordered his immediate removal to the hospital. On the way the boy lapsed into a state of deep unconsciousness and died 45 minutes after admission. It was stated to be certain that, even if the boy had been removed to the hospital as soon as the accident occurred, there would have been no chance of "saving his life, as his skull was fractured and his brain injured. An' inqiust was opened to-day before Mr. H. W. Bundle, S.M., and adjourned sine die, after medical evidsnce and evidence of ideation had been taken.
