TWO SMALL FIRES.

ALARM FROM CITY BLOCK. OUTBREAK IN A CUPBOARD. An outbreak of fire occurred at an office occupied by Messrs. Kavanagh and Boyian, solicitors, on the third floor of Union -Buildings, Customs Street East, at about 7.30 last evening. When the city brigade arrived dense volumes of smoke were pouring from the room and people in the building, including members of the Dickens' Fellowship who were about to commence a meeting, thought a serious fire had broken out, but the alarm soon subsided. The flames were quickly suppressed, the damage being confined to a cupboard and some papers that it contained. A smart response to the alarm by the Remuera and Parnell fire brigades resulted in only slight damage by fire being done to a shed owned by Mr. J. B. McDonald, at 19A, Market Road, Remuera, shortly before 9 o'clock last evening. Some wood stored in the building was burned and the interior of the walls was charred. The building was insured for £6O.
