CHANGE OF NAME OPPOSED.

THE STATION AT FRANKTON. ATTITUDE OF DEPARTMENT. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HAMILTON, Wednesday. The representations made by the Frankton Ratepayers and Citizens' Association to the Minister of Railways, urging that the name of the present Frankton Junction station bo changed to Hamilton, and that the station now known as Hamilton be renamed Hamilton Central, have rot met with official approval. The Minister, Mr. Coates, has replied that it is considered the proposed change would resul? in considerable confusion. He recalled that' when Hamilton and Claudelands stations were called Hamilton West and Hamilton East respectively, an alteration had to be made owing to the similarity of names. It was admitted that some confusion existed under the present nomenclature, but the department did not consider tho change suggested would remedy matters. Tho Minister gave his assurance that any alternative proposals which the association desired to put forward would receive careful consideration.
