AUCKLAND STOCK EXCHANGE BRISK BUSINESS YESTERDAY. Activity in tho banking, insurance and shipping sections resulted in brisk business on tho Auckland Stock Exchange yesterday. Inquiries for Government securities were again restricted, and holders did not quote freely. Offers for War Bonds, 1933 and 1936, per cent., were reduced by 5s at the late call to £lOl 15s, but other rates were maintained. In debentures New Zealand Breweries appreciated, business being done at 23s 9d, an increase of threepence on the last sale two weeks ago. In banks Commercials of Australia were available at the late call at the previous day's sale rate of 28s 3d, buyers 27s 6d. New South Wales were done at the current rate of £45, the market closing firm at £45 5s and £44 15s. Tho current price of 58s 6d was also paid for New Zealands. Offers for the D preference issue, 10s paid, were advanced from 16s to 16s 5d at the late call, sellers 17s. Unions of Australia changed hands at tho first and thud calls at £ls, the current price, late offers firming from £l4 17s 6d to £l4 18s 6d. In insurance late buyers advanced thenoffers for New Zealands by sixpence to 39s 6d, and business resulted at that figure. South British were done at 57s 3d, last week's sale rate, but further offers at that figure were not accepted, holders asking 57s 6d. In loan and agency tho- B preference issue of Farmers' Cooperative Auctioneering had sale at 14s lid, compared with 15s 6d at tho last transaction two months ago. In coal Hikurangis, which were sought at Is 3d on Tuesday, closed at 3s and Is 9d. Pukemiros were inquired for at. 60s, sellers 62s 6d. Iri gas Aucklands again -changed hands at 22s lOd, tho market closing at 22s lid and 22s 8d In shipping the current price of 48s was paid for Huddart-Parkers. Northerns were slightly easier, business being done at 14s, compared with 14s 3d last month. In brewery shares New Zealands changed hands at 43s The last sale was made at 46s three weeks ago, Tn miscellaneous Colonial Sugars were available at £53, sellers reducing their quotations by 5s at tho late call, but buyers would not advance beyond C 52 ss. Late offers for Wilsons Cement were advanced by threepence to 34s 3d, but no holders were revealed. The. mining section was again inactive, the only business being in Kawaraus, which were done at tenpence, a decline of twopence on last week's rate. Wnihis were steady at 20s and 19s 6d.
