AUCKLAND UNION MEETING. REPRESENTATIVE FIFTEENS. THE METHODS OF SELECTION. Tho Management Committee of the Auck- 1 land Rugby Union met last evening, Mr.H. Frost presiding. Suggestions for the playing of matches in the Pollard Cup competition were submitted by the sub-committee appointed, and were approved. No matches are to be played on August 27, the date of the Hawke's Bay-Auckland contest. A member stated that when two or three representative teams played on day it was difficult to find players who warranted inclusion. It was stated that in compiling the membership of the senior team the secondary teams were often disregarded. It was agreed that B teams should receive equal attention when selections were being made. A member of the City Club who received an injury in a recent match claimed payment of expenses incurred. It was stated that through an error his insurance application was not registered, but if the player would insure without delay his claim would receive consideration. Complaints alleging the misuse of the Avondale grounds were referred to the secretary for investigation. Notification of amended tramway fares Ho and from Eden Park was received from tho Auckland City Council. Fast following forwards and safe inside backs earned for the King Country Rugby touring team a hard-won victory over Thames to-day on a greasy ground. There was an attendanco of over 1000 spectators. King: Country opened well and compelled Thames to force. Then the Thames pack found its feet and took the ball to the visitors' line, where Hill cleared. Taylor and Nichol bustled the Thames backs and Winberg nearly scored. Both Bets of forwards tried hard to gain tho upper hand, but Thames was gradually pushed back. Toward the close of the first Quarter Coogan made an opening, from which Winberg beat Donnolly and Duftyjn a dashing run, but was pushed out. King Country was kept defending hard for a long spell. Thames then elected to make the game open and it was not long before the ball went out to Donnelly, who dashed for the line and scored near the corner. Winder failed to convert.
