FAIR VOLUME OF BUSINESS.

There was a fair volume of business on the Auckland Stack Exchange yesterday. Government securities were in good demand, offers for War Loans, 1938 , and 1939, per cent., being advanced 2s 6d to £96 15s during the day, but no business passed. Inscribed Stocks, 1938,, 4£ per cent., were done at the current rate of £96 15s, while the same price was paid for Inscribed Stocks, 1939, 4-Jr per cent. In debentures New Zealand Breweries changed hands at the current price of 235" 6d, and the market closed at 23s 8d and 23s sd. In banks most classes were ' sought. Nationals of New Zealand were done at £6 16s 3d, a decline of threepence on the rate at which sales were made last week. More were wanted at £6 15s, sellers £6 17s. New South Wales had sale at £45 2s 6d, equivalent to last week's rate. Holders lowered their quotations from £45 10s to £45 5s at the late call. New Zealands were steady at 59s and 58s 3d. In insurance Nationals were sought at 755, but no holders were revealed. New Zealands closed at 39s 9d and 39s without business resulting. South British were done at 56s 6d, the same price as that paid on the previous day. In loan and agency Goldsbrough, Mbrts, rights, were sought at 8s 9d at the late call, compared with 7s 6d on Monday, but sellers were firm at 10s. In shipping Huddart-Parkers changed hands at 47s 9d, an advance of threepence on the last sale three weeks ago, and the market closed at 48s 3d and 47s 6d. In miscellaneous Colonial Sugars were again sought without, response at £52. Hill and Plummers were done ' at' 225, the current price. In mining, the only sale was Waihis, at 20s, compared with /19s 9d at the. end of last week. More were available at 19s lid at the late call, buyers' 19s 7d.
