MOUNT ROSKILL AFFAIRS.

THE ESTIMATES AMENDED.

The Mount Roskill Road Board met last evening, the chairman, Mr. E. F. Jones, presiding. The clerk, Mr. J. Warren, submitted amended estimates for the current year. His own departmental expenditure was reduced from £3224 to £2216, that in the engineer's department from £13,571 to £12,444. With an estimated revenue of £15,852, this would result in a surplus of £1192, instead of a deficit of £l2lß, as originally shown. The contribution of £638 to the fire board could be covered by a rate of 5-64 d in tho £, or 6s 7d per £IOOO in value. Mr. Belcher moved that the striking of the special rate be avoided by reducing the engineer's estimate by £7OO, the estimated cost of certain machinery. However, it was decided to adopt the whole of the estimates, and to meet the fire board contribution out-of the general rate of 1 5-64 d. All the other rates were adopted. During the past fortnight permits were issued for four dwellings and a garage, the total estimated value being £5300. Eighteen buildings are in course of erection. The board decided to make a donation toward the maintenance expenses of the Seddon Memorial Technical College.
