LONDON THOROUGHFARE

PICCADILLY 1 TO BE CLOSED.

AWKWARD TRAFFIC PROBLEM

(Received July 25, 7.12 p.m.) Sud. LONDON. July 24. Commencing to-morrow, Piccadilly is to be closed to traffic for five months while the roadway is repaired. The last time this thoroughfare was paved was in 1912. It was then the cause of the greatest dislocation of traffic in the history of London. On this occasion vehicles will be allowed to use Constitution Hill at a walk- , ing pace.

Piccadilly is one of the principal thoroughfares in tho West End of London. It extends from the foot of Park Lane to Piccadilly Circus, into which run Regent Street, Shaftesbury Avenue arid Long Acre. Constitution Hill is a comparatively narrow thoroughfare which runs from the western extremity of Piccadilly down into the Mall, the eastern extension of which loads to Charing Cross and into the Strand.
