MOTORIST FROM AUSTRALIA.

[BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] INVERCARGILL, Monday. At an inquest concerning the death of Desmond Keith, who died from a fractured skull caused by the capsize of a motor-car driven by Andrew Moffatt, the coroner found that the fatality was caused by negligent driving at high speed. Moffatt, who is a member of the Australian Flying Corps, and who was on a holiday visit to his parents, was charged with negligent driving and with causing the death of Keith. He was remanded for a week.

CASE AT WHANGAREI

BENEFIT OF DOUBT GRANTED

[BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] WHANGAREI, Monday. A charge of negligently driving a motorcar was preferred against James Mackay, a well-known settler of Kamo, in the Whangarei Magistrate's Court to-day. The charge was the outcome of a recent accident in the township, whereby a car driven by Mr. C. E. Stockley was damaged. After lengthy evidence had been heard the magistrate said defendant should have the benefit of the doubt, and dismissed the case.
