OBITUARY.

MR. SIDNEY R. SPEIGHT. The death of Mr. Sidney Rhodes Speight, a resident of Northcote for the past 20 years, and well known in Auckland business and sporting circles, occurred at the Auckland Hospital on Saturday. Born at Inverell, New South Wales, 63 years ago, Mr. Speight was educated in Sydney, where his parents resided. He came to Auckland 27 yeaii ago and was on the staff of the late Mr. Adolph Kohn, jeweller, in Queen Street, for eight years before starting business on his own account. He continued in business until three years ago. He was timekeeper for the Auckland Racing Club for ten years, and he occupied a-similar position for the Avondale and Takapnna Jockey Clubs for about 25 years. Mr. Speight was also timekeeper for the Auckland Anniversary Regatta Committee for 20 years, and he officiated at the annual Northcote and Birkenhead regatta and other fixtures. He owned and sailed the yachts Minstrel and Reore, which gained prizes a&>-various regattas. Mr. Speight is survived by Mrs. Speight and a grown- ( up family of five sons and three married daughters.
