"Henry Parkes ? Oh yes, now I come to think of it he was an Australian bushranger." This was the staggering reply of a young man made to the Attorney-General of South Australia, Mr. Homburg, lately. Mr. Homburg mentioned the "howler" subsequently to point his plea for Australian history b«*ing added to subjects for University examinations. " Greek, Roman history, ancient history and Eng-, lish history are taught, but Australian history, no," he said. Sir Henry Parkes belonged to a past generation, and the present generation takes little interest in such things. Unfortunately they aro not taught in the schools.* •'
