REMITS FOR CONFERENCE.

PROJECTED ALARM SYSTEM

[BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] TAURANGA, Thursday The Tauranga Fire Board met to-day, Mr. B. Dive presiding. The secretary of the Wellington board wrote convening a conference of boards ,to be held in August.

A list of possible remits was forwarded, which included the questions of storage of hazardous goods, inspection of electrical installations, provision of fire escapes; charges for maintenance of alarm and telephone lines, and superannuation or retiring fund for firemen. The Hamilton board wrote regarding the establishment of a fund for payment of gratuities or pensions to retiring firemen. It was decided to reply suggesting that the matter be forwarded as a remit to the conference, also that, if any scheme be adopted it be a Dominion one. A report by the superintendent laid stress on the need for a more powerful motor reel.

Estimates for the nine months ending March 31, 1928, were adopted, the principal items being:—Wages and salaries, £180; new fire alarm system, £150; part cost of proposed new motor reel, £l5O. It was decided to instal a "White" alarm system of six boxes, and to make inquiries in regard to replacing the present motor reel.
