RELIGION AND SCHOOLS.

The annual conference of the Protestant Political Association was continued today. The balance-sheet showed a slight deficit. Dissatisfaction was expressed at the attitude of the Government oa some questions, but on others the association considered that its treatment left no room for complaint. Howard Elliott; treasurer, Mr. H. Bilby; executive, Messrs. L. E. Rhodes, J. Cocker and F. W. Ashmen. The conference reaffirmed its demand for the withdrawal of the concession of rating exemptions for Roman. Catholic schools and its opposition to tlfie extension to other denominational schools. It also requested the withdrawal of the free carriage of children to denominational schools.

It was decided to recommend to th«i Government that the time was opportune to change the basis of Arbitration Coart awards from the cost of living to that of production.
