RANFURLY SHIELD CHALLENGE. [BV TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION. J WELLINGTON. Wednesday. A meeting of the Council of the New Zealand Rugby Union was held to-night. The Manawatu-Horowhenua Union challenged the "Wairarapa Union for the Ranfurly Shield, dates suggested bein? August (i or ID. In the event of Hawkr'i Bay winning the shield on July 9. Manawatu-Horowhenua asked that its match with Hawke's Bay on July 30 should he a shield match. The Palmerston North Boys' High School lodtred n challenge for the Monscar Cup. he'd by T<- Ante College. The British Columbia Rugby I'nion advised that tlie British Columbia University team which won the British Columbia Rugby championship last year was anxious for an invitation to visit New Zealand next season. The matter was referred to tHe Finance Committee to report to the next meeting on the coat of such a tour.
