TWO. CHARGES OF VAGRANCY. INCIDENT ON FERRY STEAMER. A charge of vagrancy was admitted by 1 Arthur Isaac Martin, aged 51, in the Police Court yesterday. Senior-Sergeant. Edwards said that while travelling on a Devonport ferry steamer Constable Tipton v. as informed that accused' was attempting to commit suicide. When questioned accused admitted he had spent his last- money on drink in order to muster sufficient courage to go to Devonport and throw himself into the harbour. Accused was remanded for a week in | the care of the Salvation Army. Kllen Hawthorn, aged 45. also pleaded guilty to a charge of vagrancy. Senior- ' Sergeant Edwards said accused was before the Court on April 28 and was ordered (to come tip for sentence when called upon, j conditions being imposed. She had notobserved the conditions. She had a number of previous convictions. Sentence of three months' imprisonment was imposed, dames Butcher, aged 50, pleaded guilty to being drunk and breaking a bottle in Shorthand Street. A fine of 10s, in default 24 hours' imprisonment, was imposed on each charge.
