IMPOUNDED FOR STRAYING. CLAIM FOR DAMAGE.? FAILS. [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT 1 CERISTCHURCH, Tuesday. Arising out of the sale by the Papanui I lourulkeeper of the trotting mare Ivy Viking, for £2 15s, a case was heard in the Magistrate's Court to-day in which William Scoles Grigg, builder, the mare's original owner, claimed £SO damages from John Slack, baker, to whom the mare was leased when lost. Plaintiff said the mare, just prior to being leased to defendant, had won a two miles race at Nelson, and a one and a-half miles race at Wellington, ft had come in first at a small meeting at I I LI I'll 11111. It was also stated thai it was not until six weeks after the sale of the mare at the pound that its absence from the paddock was noticed The woman who had bought the mare would not sell it for less than £3O after she discovered it was a trotter.

After hearing further evidence Mr. H. P. Lawry, S.M., gave judgment for defendant, with costs.
