BOXING FIASCO.

Sir,—An explanation is due to the public from the Northern Boxing Association for Monday evening's fiasco, but ntore than explanations will be required to restore the confidence of many supporters who are not likely to be seen again at local boxing contests until they are assured of reasonable sport. The amateur bouts were unworthy of such a ring. Are boxers matched by mere chance, oi- are they tried out privately under expert eyes, as is done in Dunedin What lam chiefly concerned about, however, is the professional bouts, upon which the association depended. One contest was allowed to go to the stage of brutality, and the second simply was not the beginning of a Jfight. Is it a fact that the Australian visitor was tried out privately in Wellington and thereafter failed to be matched there ? Was he asked to display his talent or lack of it in Auckland before our boxing authorities found him a match ? Any man runs the risk of an early knock" out, but not in the simple manner Delaney took the count. The boxing public paid its money for less merit than is often seen in a single bout among the territorial or collega bovs, and it is high time the Northern Boxing Association realised that its methods are killing general interest in the game. Old Amateur.
