OYSTERS TO-DAY

LONGER SEASON EXPECTED. The oyster season will open in Auckland to-day. There are over 500 sacks in store and the first sale will take place the Government oyster depot at nine o'clock this morning. Mr. F. P. Flynn, inspector of fisheries, stated yesterday that the oysters are of very good quality, and the prospects are that the season will be of longer duration this year than last. Approximately 40 men are employed as pickers and they are fit present working on beds in the Kaipara and Manukau Harbours, Hauraki Gulf, the Great Barrier, Bay of Islands find Coromandel. One gallon of oysters in a paper bag will cost Is 6d this season, as compared with Is 9d last year. Twenty-gallon lots in sacks will remain at the same price of 245, and four-gallon lots without a sugar bag will be sold at 5s 6d, and with a bag ss.
