MOTORING ACCIDENTS.

COLLISION WITH A COW. EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO CAR. ANIMAL KILLED ON ROAD. [BY TET.EGRAPB. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. 1 . TE AROHA. Thursday. A motor-car was damaged in a collision with a cow at about eight o'clock last night. The car was owned and driven by Mr. Mannix, of Waihou. Mr. Mannix was returning home along *McCabe's Road when the cow jumped from the bank on to the centre of the road directly in front of the car. There was no chance of avoiding the animal. The radiator of the motor was damaged beyond hope of repair. Both lamps were smashed, the front mudguards were badly twisted, while the whole under-carriage was strained. The cow was killed. A conservative estimate of the damage to the car is £IOO. Mr. Mannix himself escaped with a severe shaking. A further accident occurred this morning. Mr. D. Curtain, of Waitoa, was driving in the direction of Te Aroha and in moving to the side of the road to pass an approaching truck he struck a projecting root with the result that his car skidded. The rear portion of the car struck the lorry a glancing blow, the rear mudguard being torn off, while the front tyre and bumper were also badly damaged. Fortunately no one was injured. BOY CYCLIST INJURED. CONDITION VERY GRAVE. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] NEW PLYMOUTH. Thursday. As the result of a collision with a motor-car in Devon Street to-day a lad named John G. Abraham, aged 15 years, is in the New Plymouth Hospital. An operation was necessary and his condition is reported to be very grave. Abraham was riding a bicycle aod the car was driven by Dr. D. E. Brown. The boy crashed into side of the car, his ffead striking the windscreen.
