AUCKLAND STOCK EXCHANGE. . DAY OF BRISK BUSINESS. The Auckland sharemarkefc was busy yesterday, principal attention again being paid to the investment sections. In Government securities there }was inquiry for most classes. Sale was made of War Bonds, 1938, 4£ per cerat., at £96 17s 6d, a reduction of 2s 6d on last sale, more being wanted at £96 12s 6d, sellers not quoting. In local body debentures Auckland .Harbour Board, 1940, 5£ per cents., sold at £9B 15s- In banks Australasias changed hands at £l4 £ss, the current price, with further demand at £l4 14s, sellers £l4 16s. New Sofcnfch Wales were done at £45 15s, more being available at that figuro at the third call, buyers £45 10s. Unions of Australia dhanged hands at £ls 12s 6d, the current rate. In insurance New Zealands had sale at 40s 3d. There was firm demand for South British at 565, sellers steady at 57s 3d. In coal Pukemiros were done at 595. The firming tendency of Westports. was maintained, and there were sales at 34s 7d and 34s 9d. In miscellaneous Colonial Sugars sold at £53 10s. In mining Alburmas were firmer and sale was made, at 4s 2d, 4s 3d and 4s 6d, the market closing at 4s 8d and 4s 6d after opening at 4s 3d and 4s Id. Regulations which in the main consolidate the existing hemp grading regulations have been gazetted- The alterations made are designed to bring the rules into line with the present day practice. The previous payment of grading was per hundredweigrit, now it is calculated per bale. MATAMATA STOCK SALE. Dalgety and Co.. Ltd.. held their regular Matamata stock sale on Wednesday. The following rates ruled:—Cattle: lat cows, £5 to £5 7s: stores, £2 to £3'lis; boners. 30s: dry heifers, backward. £!! 15s to £i 15».
