HOTEL COMMERCIAL ROOMS.

NOT TO BE USED AS BARS. RULING GIVEN AT THAMES. [BY TELEGRAPH.— OWN CORRESPONDENT.] THAMES, 'flniruda* A ruling on the question whether country licensees whose hotels had limited bar accommodation were permitted to use commercial rooms as common drinking rooms on holidays was requested by Sergeant McDonnell at the annual meeting of the Thames Licensing Committee. Mr. B. Clendon said that in the case of the Royal Oak Hotel, Tapu, it was impossible to avoid overcrowding on holidays. The bar was small, and it was much more convenient for the proprietor and customers to have drinks served in the commercial room. The Chairman: They have 110 right to do it. Sergeant McDonnell further stated that non-drinking people were compelled to conduct any business they might wish to transact in rooms given over to beer drinking. The Chairman: The licensee has no right to extend tho bar through the house in that way.
