MATCH AGAINST OXFORD. ANOTHER DRAW RESULTS. VISITORS' EXCELLENT EFFORT. B? Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright. A. and N.Z. LONDON. June 7. The cricket match, New Zealand v. Oxford University, ended to-day at Oxford in a draw. The Oxonians contiarvwd their second innings in the forenoon fc'ith the score at 113 for two wickets, Crawley (69) and Holmes (17) being the not-out men. Crawley had only added three to his total when be was caught off Henderson. The outgoing batsman had batted for 160 minutes and had hit 11 fours. The light became poor and the batsmen found Merritt most difficult to play. Newman's 33 included six fours. Page made a sensational debut as a bowler by capturing the last four j wickets. New Zealand began unluckily. They lost Mills when the total was only 16. Dempster gave a chance in the slips when he had scored 10. The New Zealanderi made a fine sporting effort to force a win and 50 went up on the board in less than 40 minutes. Lowry set a fast pace, but when Dempster was caught at mid-off in attempting a forcing drive more care obviously became necessary. Lowry and Page watched the bowling cautiously. As a result the next hour realised only 30 runs. When Page had made nine he gave a hard return to Greenstock, who missed the catch. The partnership added 75 runs in 90 minutes. Lowry batted for 150 minutes. Two cheap wickets followed and New Zealand's chance was apparently endangered after their sporting opening, but Allcott and Blunt held the fort successfully for the last 40 minutes. It seems safe to prophesy that sicveral in the team will top their 1000 runs for the s«a3on by a good margin. W. E. Merritt continues to he the outstanding bowler, although M. L. Page's performance in Oxford's second innings displaced the youngest member of the team from the leading position in ' the bowling averages. McGirr 3 howling is also proving satisfactory, and he is second to Merritt for the honour of having taken the most wickets. The averages for the tour to date are as follows:
