KIRK-WINDEYER CUP MATCH.) VICTORIA TO BE OPPOSED. (Received June 8, 10.37 p.m.) A. and N.Z. SYDNEY, June 8. In the first round of the elimination contests between the Australian State teams to decide which will meet the New Zealand team in the Kirk-Windeyer Cup match Victoria easily disposed of Queensland without the loss of a game. Victoria then met New South Wales. Each side won two matches, but Victoria had an advantage of nine holes, and will therefore meet New Zealand in the final Ivo Whitton, Victoria, was in great form against H. McClelland, New South Wales and was 4 up at the ninth hole, and eventually won by 7 up. Russell, Victoria, and Nigel Smith, New South Wales, had a most strenuous match, the latter winning 2 up on the last green. Headlam's match with Bettington produced briliant golf. Bettington won by one hole. E. G. Schlapp, Victoria, was much too good for Dennett, New South Wales. The results were as follows: Victoria against Queensland. —Whitton defeated Clive Boyce, 5 up; Russell defeated Dr. Boyce, 12 up; Headlam defeated Hall, 2 up; E. G. Schlapp defeated Cumming, 1 up. Victoria against New South Wales. — Ivo Whitton defeated H. McClelland, 7 up; Russell lost to Nigel Smith, 2 down; Headlam lost to Bettington, 1 down; Schlapp defeated Dennett, 5 up. To-morrow morning in the foursomes T. H. Horton and A. D. S. Duncan, New Zealand, will play Ivo Whitton and Russell, Victoria; Dr. K. Ross and Quin, New Zealand, play Headlam and Schlapp. Victoria. In the afternoon A. D. S. Duncan plays Ivo Whitton; T. H. Horton plays Russell; Dr. Ross plays Headlam; L. Quiun plays Schlapp. Both teams are in great form and brilliant golf and storn contests are anticipated. _______
