- ASSOCIATION ACTIVITIES. 3 THE PETROL TAX QUESTION. r 5 [BY TELEGRArH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] 3 rUKEKOHE, Wednesday. * The annual meeting of the Franklin 3 branch of the Auckland Automobile Asi sociation was held at Pukekohe last • evening, Mr. J. Fulton, vice-president, presiding. \ The report submitted by the secretary, ; Mr. M. S. Campbell, stated that tho : membership of the branch had increased : in the 12 months from 137 to 154. Two | runs had been held, one to Maioro Beach, i West Coast, and the other to Duder's Beach, Maratai. In October the branch ! had arranged for the cars for a trip round the district for 150 Newton schoolchildren, who had come to Pukekohe for a ' day in the country. As the outcome of a request by the branch to tho Pukekohe Borough Council, a camping site for ' motorists had been provided at Roose's Bush, Pukekohe. The financial statement showed a credit balance of £67 lis. Tho election of officers resulted:—President, Mr. Fulton; vice-presidents, Messrs. G. T. Proude and A. Duthie; committee, Messrs. Curd, E. T. Frost, C. Dickey, I. G. Wymer, A. B. Ghezzi ' and C. Bennett, and Dr. McWhirtcr; secretary and treasurer, Mr. Campbell:* auditor, Mr. H. H. O'Loughlm. An outline of work being done by the council cf the Auckland Automobile Association was given by Mr. Curd. A resolution was carried unanimously approving the action of the council in , considering the matter of making insurance against third-party risk compulsory for motorists. The branch affirmed the principle of a petrol fax for raising money for construction and maintenance of roads if further taxation was necessary.
