FIVE YEARS FOR MURDER.

SPANIARD'S CALLOUS CRIME. SHOOTS GIRL IN RESTAURANT. There are many "crimes of passion" in Franco which fail to move the public in Court, the judge on his bench, or even the prisonef in the dock. The trial in Paris of a rich, middle-aged Spaniard, Isidro Ramos, for the murder of a Montmartre girl who went by the name of Lilette has, however, .been an exception, and Ramos' repentance has resulted in his receiving the lenient sentence of five years' imprisonment. The crime was committed in a restaurant whetfe Ramos and Lilette had been dining. Suddenly Ramos tojd the girl to look out of the window; she obeyed, and he then quickly drew a revolver from his pocket and fired several shots, killing her instantly. His explanation was that Lilette's frivolous - nature had made , him wildy jealous, and he could stand it no longer. As the Judge recalled the crime Ramos sobbed in hi 3 seat. Elegantly dressed, the accused stated that his income, consisting of an allowance made by a wealthy uncle, was £2OOO a year. Counsel for the defence mentioned that his client had made very generous provision for Lilette's mother as a practical sign of his grief. One of the witnesses was the waitress who served Ramos and Lilette on the evening of the murder. "When monsieur had killed madame," she said, "he settled his bill very calmly, giving me, naturally, a much bigger tip than usual. ' The hilarity in Court caused by the word "naturally'was promptly repressed by the judge.
