TRACING CAR THEFTS.
MOTOR-CYCLES FOR POLICE. ASSOCIATION'S SUGGESTION, A decision to urge the Commissioner of Police to provide two motor-cycles for use in the investigation of motor-car thefts in Auckland was reached by the council of the Auckland Automobile Association last evening. The suggestion arose out of a report by a special committee which conferred \sth the police and underwriters' representatives in Auckland. The committee was of opinion the police force was doing its best under the circumstances with the four men detailed specifically for motor inquiries. The central station possessed only two motor-cars and these were not often available to the constables investigating thefts of cars. It was resolved to advocate the use of two motor-cycles and to suggest to the Minister of Justice that magistrates should impose maximum penalties in cases of unlawful conversion brought to the Court.
