SCHOLARS' TRAMWAY TICKETS.
Sir,— Presuming that these concessions are mainly for scholars attending the secondary schools, I consider that if there is a real desire to give fair assistance to parents, some changes should bo made- Because all cars do not pass the Grammar School, why should those who have to break a four-section journey be required to pav more than those who live on routes that' carry them the same distance without changing cms? As the situations of our secondary schools and the parents' business addresses are not made to coincide it would surely be a much more equitable suggestion if flat rate 30-ride tickets, with provision for punching any number of. sections, were issued for, say, three shillings These tickets should not be available for children attending the primary schools, as the nearest school is- within easy walking distance: should not be used during -he term holidays, and all boys using these concessions should bo compelled to vacate their seats as soon as any lady or man is unable to get a seat. Unless these tickets are in some way authorised by the schools they are likely to be used bv some boys after they have left school. There is also going to bo serious dunculty with the regulation time making the tickets not available alter 4.30 p.m., as, for instance, at the Grammar School, all physically-fit boys are required to play football until about 5 p.m., which means that they cannot even start for home before 4.30 p.m., and those who have to change cars in the city will be well after that time.
