A NELSON LETTER.
GIFT TO AUCKLAND LIBRARY. MR. MOSS DAVIS' DONATION. Mr. Moss Davis, having the city of Auckland in mind, has purchased at Christie's an original letter written by Lord Nelson a few weeks before the Battle of Trafalgar. Mr. Davis has decided to present this letter to the Auckland City Council for the citizens of Auckland. The High Commissioner, to whom it has been handed, suggests that the document should be placed in the manuscript section of the Public Library. In this letter, which is written in a very clear band. Nelson gives instructions to one of his captains. It is dated "Victory, Octobsr 15, 1805." " Sir," writes the great admiral, " You will, with the Agamemnon, take a station west from Cadiz from seven to ton leagues, by which means, if the enemy should move, I hope I have instant information, as two or three ships will , be kept as at present Between the fleet | and your two ships, and it seems thought j by Captain Blackwood that a whip or two j may attempt to drive the frigates off, and if that should bo the case, you will be at hand to assist. I am, sir, with great respect, your most faithful arid obedient servant," The letter is addressed to Captain Grosse Hope, and signed " Nelson and Bronte."
