ROUTINE GARDEN WORK.

CURRENT OPERATIONS. If it has not been carried out already the digging over of all ground not occupied by crops at present should be attended to. Ground that is not to be cropped again for some months will be best sown with some green cover crop, to be turned under before cropping commences again. Oats, lupins and mustard aro crops which may be utilised for this purpose The soil is in fairly good condition for working at present. Other work which should be carried out now while the chance is good includes the loosening up of the soil between the various crops. A deep forking will serve tho purpose most suitably. The weeding of the whole garden and the thinning out of autumn-sown crops are also seasonable operations. The harvesting of melons, marrows and pumpkins may be carried Out as tho time becomes opportune. The storing of the two last-mentioned should be considered carefully. Usually the grower has no available space in a shed and so has to store them outside. This procedure is quite satisfactory and may be followed safely. There are one or two points in connection with the choice of the position of the place of storage which might be mentioned. Under a sheltering tree is suitable, provided it is cool and dry. Marrows and pumpkins if stacked aronnd a free under these conditions should keep well
