MOTORISTS IN COURT.

ONEHUNGA PROSECUTTONS. The absence of a tail-light on a springcart was alleged by Thomas Wrigley in the Onehunga Police Court yesterday to be the reason why his motor ran into the cart, broke the shaft, precipitated thetwo occupants on the pavement, and scattered a load of firewood in all directions. Accused stated he was motoring on his correct side near Cornwall Park entrance, but the glare of a dazzling street lamp prevented him from seeing the cart until he was right on it. On a charge of negligent driving, Mr. J. W. Poynton, S.M., fined accused £2, with costs, £3 2s. It was stated that at 6.50 a.m. on March 16, A. B. Walbank (Mr. Hogben) was driving his milk-lorry in Trafalgar Street, when he ran into C. J. Reardon, who was leisurely cycling up the street, talking to a friend on the footpath. The cyclist maintained he took a straight course, but accused said he swerved out just as he overtook him. The magistrate dismissed a charge of not reporting the accident, saying the language of the cyclist possibly justified accused in assuming he was not much hurt, especially when he cycled off as soon as !he had brushed the dust off his clothes. For driving in a dangerous manner accused was fined 40s, with costs. Erie Gunner, charged with driving without a licence and driving in a dangerous manner, was fined £2 on each charge, with costs, 10s.
