VITAL STATISTICS.
FIGURES FOR FOUR MONTHS. / . FEWER EASTER MARRIAGES, • The most noticeable feature, of the vital statistics for the first four months of the year is the decrease in the number of Easter marriages. Tho totals, for the four months'are as follows, last year's figures being given in parentheses:—January, 172 (172.); Febru-. ary, 164 (150);■ March, 185 (258); April, 203 (184). ' Last year the majority of licences for Easter marriages were obtainei in. March, while this year, as the festival fell a fortnight later, they were obtained in April. The totals for the two four-monthly periods are:—l 927, 724; 1926, 764. If the figures for the Easter months are subtracted from these totals it will be seen that apart from the decrease in Easter licences, 1927 shows an increase of 15 licences issued. Marriages by the registrar evidently retain their popularity, 173 having been performed so far this year, compared -with 171 for the first four months of 1926. Deaths for the four months show a deCrease, the tot# being 514, compared ■with 528 last year. The figures are: — January, 110 (135); Februarv. 128 (134) ; March, 147 (135): April 129 (124). Births last month were 38 less than in April, 1926. Figures for the year are':— January. 330 A 326); Februarv. 272 (271); March,' 332 ( 333) ; April, 283 (321).
