REVENUE FROM CUSTOMS.

LARGE DECREASE IN APRIL. FIGURES FOR FOUR MONTHS. The net customs duties collected at the port of Auckland last monih totalled £157,229, a decrease of £54,710 on April, 1926, when the revenue was 211,935. Taking the first four months there is a decrease this year of £87,905. Such a low return for April ha 3 not been recorded in Auckland for some years, and in fact the amount is the lowest for any one month since 1922, which was generally acknowledged as a bad trade year. Recent advice from England stated that trade with the Dominions had been quiet, with the exception of Australia aftd Canada, which had been maintaining a good proportion of imports from Home. Overseas trade was still suffering from the slump toward the end of last year, although it: was expected that exports, which were gradually improving, would have increased considerably by the end of April. The following table shows this year's customs figures in comparison with those for llhe corresponding four mouths of 1926: 1927. 1926 January . . £178,573 £203,589 February . . £202,518 £ 2-20.762 March . . £221.231 £201,1W April .. £157,229 £2i 1,939 Totals . . £759.551 £ 317,153 Beer duty collected last month totalled £9-433, compared with £8358 in April, 1926.
