Saturday The Manawatu meeting was concluded today in fine but cold weather, and before a moderate attendance Joy Kinc won well in the Manawatu Stakes There were some great finishjs. In the Kairansa tlurdles the iirisadier Bill-Onjahu bracket was favourite, all the others behjg at a good price. Pasaine the stands was well clear from in ferno, Vexatious and Santonio. with BrieaI dier Bill and Matu next. Comedy Prince went up to Kalakaua in the back straight trorn Elvaette, Vexatious. Brigadier Bill and Bonny Kill. Elvaette and Comedy Prince juut led Kalakaua and Brigadier Bill at the last tence and once over El vaette came away to win nicely by two lengths. Brigadier Bill just cut Kaiakauu out oi third place. Sottano was tilth and Vexatious and bonny Kill next. Elvaette won in great' style, and Elvaette promises to be a useiul jumper for the winter. in the Lockwood Handicap Jdattiox was a good lavcurue with .fop Uii, JtUsmg Star, VVaiculius, Partaga and Kaios even;y backed. The Tamatete Handicap stiw Olerij Damon a sngtitly better favourite than jJdanaane, with a fair measure ot support for ioi.ua atid JNgata, Pita Jed down the straight from bsolch Mixtare. Verijfcern, Clarinda and Merry Oanioii. with Merry Hay last. With seven furlongs to >-o Pita was well clear of Scotch Mixture. Clarinda, Merry Damon and lioyal Divorce. Pita just .led Clarir.da and Vertigern with three furlongs to go, with Novar,'Royal Divorce and Yoma nandy, and Mandane wide out all the way. Clarinda shook off the leaders at the turn and both Yoma and Mandane joined in half-way down tht straight. In a great finish Clarinda beat Yoma by a bare head, with Mandane a length and a-half away. Ngata was a close fourth and then came Merry Day and Merry Damon. Clarinda battled on in good style and returned her t)potters a great price. She was well placed all the way. The Stonyhurst Handicap ptcvided magnificent finish with the favourites beaten and both dividends of larsre dimansi >ns. I'rom a good start Lady Bentinclc showed the way down the back from Deluge. Ngawati. Miss Hupana, Polyphemus, Bevis • and Peneu3. Deluge. Lady Bentinck and Ngawati were the first to turn for home with Penejs and Bevis joining in. Over the last 50 yards Bevis. on the rails, and Peneus in the centre, drew out and in the great finish Bevis beat Peneua by inches, with Vivo a head away third. Then rieht up with heads and necks between them came Ngawati Deluge, Miss Hupana and Polyphemus. Joy King Beats Gascony. in the Manawatu Stakes Reremoana unci. •Toy King disputed favouritism. Gascony was also well backed. Joy King and Tukia began best but Gascony soon ran into the lead, and he was attended by Joy King on his. girths right round to the turn where Rerjinoana had closed up. Joy King gradually wore clown Gascony in the run to the post and scored by three-ciuarters of a length. Reremoana was two lengths away third Joy King won well but Gascony was r.ot disgraced. For the Cloverlea Nursery Handicap Great Charter wound up a short-priced fav ite with Ludy Limond, Sarchee and Vigilance the only others backed. Great Charter showed the way round to the turn to Vigilance. Sarchee Callanmore. and Cav ity. Once in line for home Great Charter came on to win as he liked by five lengths. There was a good race for second place, Sarchee gaining that honour by i head from Lady Limond, with Vigilance another head eway Callanmore anc! Au(omina were next. The winnei outclassed the ithers. In the Borough Handicap Crown Area was a decided first choice, with Benzora and Orchic! well backed. Lic'timn. Mireusonta and Benzora were the first to break the line, and they led down the back from ' First- Acre. Decoy Bird and Standard, with Crown Area and Archeen at the tail of the field.
