CELEBRATIONS ON WEDNESDAY* The committee appointed last Thursday to arrange for the celebration of the jubilee of the constitution of Onehunga as a borough have since been actively engaged in completing details. The prominent feature will be the presentation of the modern development of the borough., contrasted with the conditions prevailing 50 years ago, while a few ot' those, taking part can go back 7G or SO years. Jt is proposed to bead the procession with a bullock-dray, the intermediate stage being shown by Captain J. MeIntyre's phaeton, whilst an up-to-dato motor-lorrv will provide the latest m traction. Similarly, the old fire brigade reel and hose will be brought out from its retirement of years ago, pulled along the street by hand, whii* uniformed men will be mounted on the new tire engine | that was recently imported. It- is also proposed to invite the co-operation of the Maoris. The Mayor of Auckland, Mr. G. Baiklon, the chairman of the Auckland Harbour Board, Mr. H. E. Mackenzie, and the chairman of the Hospital Board, Mr. W. Wallace, will be among those present. About 120 invitations to old settlers have been issued, but thj committee ait) of opinion that there are many more in the district. Only yesterday four Mere found who have been in Onehunga for 70 years, and those who are not personally known to the committee are requested to communicate with the secretary, Mr. J. E. Green, as the committee desire to welcome them all at the reunion, at whichiftui address of congratulation will be delivered by the Mayor of Auckland. Among other speakers will bo Mr. John Howe, who was Mayor of Onehunga for many years, and who has had the good fortune to come across some interesting records of 1854, 23 years before the borough was constituted.
